So You Want a Website

This is great news because then you are in the driver’s seat and can write, design and tailor your message for your audience.

For example, visit Women Drummers International and look at the Header.
The site title is listed and the tag line and 3 Main Menu items.
Each Main Menu item has sub-navigation items that further describe that section in more detail using written copy, and/or photos, graphics, video and/or recorded sound

  • Decide upon a clear, concise purpose for your website. (site title)
  • Expand upon your website’s main purpose by listing major topics that fit under the purpose. (main menu)
  • Decide on a Focus Statement or what is sometimes called a tagline.
  • Gather together your content: written, visual and/or sound.
  • Sign up and pay for the domain name and website hosting service.

For example: visit Mountain Melody: Women’s Chorus is a stunning website because the copy is clear and concise. The graphics are beautiful and visually announce the theme for their annual Spring and Winter Concerts.

  • Think about your ideal and specific audience who would be most interested in what you are offering via your website. This can be a product or service and/or information and then write copy for this specialized audience that they will best understand.
  • Visual assets help to illustrate and tell the story that your copy explains in a written format and add a great deal of interest to the page. A website is somewhat similar to a well-done brochure that gives you the information that you want in a handy format.
